Mepa acts against illegal waste sorting station

Mepa enforcement officers this morning descended on a waste-sorting depot which has been operating without a permit in Zabbar. The depot is being closed down and removed because it is illegal. The Authority issued an enforcement order in August.  A number of residents in the area had complained about the sorting of dry recyclable waste in the field just off Triq Wied il-Għajn that links Żabbar to Marsascala. Waste carrier trucks and open skips were regularly seen dumping the waste in the field where it was sorted by two men.
