Updated - Prisoner swallows substance during prisons drugs search

A prisoner was seen swallowing a substance as officers searched for drugs at the prisons this afternoon. The Home Affairs Ministry said he was made to throw up, and further investigations are under way. Earlier, the ministry said that during the search, five sachets of what were believed to be drugs were found in a prison cell this afternoon. It was the second such discovery in a week,with two prisoners having been found in possession of drugs earlier this week. The Ministry of Home Affairs said the raids are being made on instructions of Minister Manuel Mallia as part of a campaign to stamp out drug-taking in the prisons.
