The Federation for Hunting & Conservation – Malta (FKNK) said today that it immediately alerted the police yesterday when a flock of flamingos was sighted over Malta. The police acted promptly, with officers posted to watch over the birds while they roosted last night. Most have now left but two were seen in Ghadira this morning. The FKNK urged the public and its members to report any illegalities regarding hunting for protected wild bird species. Calls may be made to the Police on telephone numbers 112 or 21224001. The police in early June arrested three men following the shooting of a flamingo at Salina Bay. Some of its blood stained feathers were reportedly found in a van.  The shooting, which caused an outcry, was condemned by the FKNK, BirdLife Malta and parliamentary secretary for animal rights, among others. However no one has been arraigned yet.
