A man has been arrested in Sydney on arrival from Malta on suspicion that he intended to place bombs targeting his doctor and a hospital. A Magistrate ordered that he be placed under psychiatric evaluation.
The Australian media said the 42-year-old was arrested by Australian Federal Police at Sydney Airport yesterday.
The two home-made bombs were meant for the offices of the man's eye doctor and a hospital in Sydney. They were discovered when the man's ex-wife contacted police in April after she found the bombs at her Albion Park home.
The man - who was not named - left Australia for Malta days before the discovery.
The bomb squad rendered the bombs safe before they were set to explode.
