Labour reveals that it is €3.3 million in the black

The Labour Party closed its 2012 financial year with a consolidated fund of €3.3 million, boost-ed by a €65,155 operating profit, according to abridged accounts published this weekend. This means the party is €3.3m in the black when taking into account all of its assets against its recurring debt. Although the Nationalist Party has not yet published its accounts, its financial situation is expected to contrast significantly as PN employees were recently told their salaries could not be paid. PL CEO Gino Cauchi presented his party’s financial accounts on Friday during its annual general conference, where he also said the election campaign cost the party €1.5 million. During the nine-week campaign, which began January, the PL spent €181,750 on newspaper and internet advertising, €413,427 on publications and postage, and €922,452 on logistics. Speaking to this newspaper, Mr Cauchi said logistics included the party’s staged events and structures, as well as the printing for billboards. The party invested in the billboard structures throughout the years, he added.
