Watch: Policeman accused of rape quits the corps

Updated 3.05pm - Added video A policeman accused of raping a colleague inside a police station and assaulting another in a squad car told a court on Tuesday he had quit the corps earlier that day, ahead of his arraignment.  Standing in the court with his head bowed and his eyes glistening with tears, the man - whose name and personal details have been banned from publication - said that he was no longer a police officer, since he had tendered his resignation earlier that morning.  He pleaded not guilty to charges ranging from rape to violent indecent assault and sexual harassment.  The officer allegedly raped and harassed a 19-year-old female colleague who reportedly kept quiet until hearing that another female police officer in her same district had also been assaulted inside a squad car by the accused. Magistrate Monica Vella acceded to the defence's request for a social inquiry report and treatment order for their client, and also issued protection orders for both the alleged victims.  Defence counsel Alfred Abela did not file a request for bail and the accused will instead be held at the Forensic Unit pending proceedings.  Inspectors Joseph Busuttil and Mark Mercieca...
