Former EU Health Commissioner John Dalli

Disclosure of the Olaf report on former Commissioner John Dalli could lead to tampering with evidence, the Police Commissioner and the Attorney General have argued in a court application. “The report names several people who the police have spoken to or are planning to speak to in connection with the investigation.”   A Magistrate ordered the presentation of the report during proceedings against Mr Dalli’s former canvasser, Silvio Zammit, who is accused of soliciting a €60 million bribe to influence tobacco legislation under Mr Dalli’s portfolio. The document was to have been presented on Thursday but the hearing was postponed. The prosecution argued that the delay in its investigations was caused by Mr Dalli’s alleged state of health.   He was interrogated shortly after the police received the Olaf report  but then travelled to Brussels for treatment.
