President George Abela this evening appealed to public officials to respect their position and behave in line with the highest moral and ethical values.
In his Christmas message, the President spoke about the recent developments in the judiciary saying that like the rest of the nation, he had also been shocked and concerned at the allegations made but he did not lose confidence in the judiciary, as most of its members did their duty honestly and with integrity.
At the same time, he was comforted by the fact that the country had systems with which to ensure that no one was above the law. But although there could be a continuous debate about reforms, no reform could guarantee public officials with integrity.
It was only the appointees themselves who could guarantee this by behaving according to the highest moral and ethical values their position required.
Dr Abela hoped that the forthcoming electoral campaign would be cordial and one where reciprocal respect was shown by all parties with rational arguments being made without personal attacks.
