Provisional estimates for last year indicate that Gozo’s contribution to national Gross Domestic Product at market prices was 5.3 per cent, or €344 million, the National Statistics Office said this morning. Gross Value Added for Malta increased by three per cent in 2011, while that for Gozo went up by 2.5 per cent. Almost all industries registered an increase in total employment in both regions in 2011, although both regions experienced a decrease in employment in mining and quarrying; manufacturing; electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply; water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation activities. Gozo also experienced a drop in employment in construction activities. A decrease in unemployment was registered for both Malta and Gozo in 2011.
