Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi this afternoon urged young people to continue studying during a visit to audit firm PriceWaterhouseCoopers. Dr Gonzi was given a tour of the recently expanded company premises in Mriehel where 460 people work. The Prime Minister also visited a child care centre just across the road that was built in partnership with PWC. At least 65 per cent of the audit firm's employees are women and the child care facility was in response to this reality. "Our country needs initiatives like these," Dr Gonzi said, adding that the percentage participation rate for women in the work force had reached its highest ever. During the visit Dr Gonzi was accompanied by Finance Minister Tonio Fenech. At one point during the tour Dr Gonzi, who was speaking to one of the company partners, joked about an exchange he once had with Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono after shaking hands with a Gozitan employee. "I once suggested to Giovanna whether Gozo should one day be given independence, but she turned to me and said, 'one day it will be Malta that will ask for independence'," Dr Gonzi said with a smile.
