GWU to boycott PM's Christmas drinks and official New Year greetings

The GWU will be boycotting the Prime Minister’s Christmas drinks and official New Year greetings because “the union is no hypocrite”. Speaking during a reception for the union’s pensioner members at the its headquarters in Valletta, general secretary Tony Zarb said that following the budget, other unions and employer organisations praised the government for the announced measures. The GWU, however, did not because the budget did not meet its expectations as the government had ignored its serious proposals. The GWU was attacked by the Prime Minister because of this. Following this attack, the Prime Minister invited the union for Christmas drinks. “But the GWU is no hypocrite,” he said. Mr Zarb said that next year will be an important year for the country and for the union which will celebrate its 70th anniversary. He said that although the government attacked and discriminated the union each and every legislature, it was still here and this year increased its membership by 2,755. Mr Zarb appealed to the people not to trust those who had deceived them in the next election. He hoped that the meeting with pensioners next year “will be under a new sun because our country comes first...
