Labour Party officials have been quietly telling supporters not to go to Valletta this evening to follow the vote in Parliament on the Budget.
A spokesman for the party confirmed that those who had indicated they planned to go to St George's Square were being told not to do so, thus avoiding unnecessary tension.
Earlier this year, small crowds of mostly PN supporters gathered on the square when the no-confidence votes in Carm Mifsud Bonnici and Richard Cachia Caruana were taken.
The PL spokesman said the advice to supporters not to go to Valletta was in line with comments by party leader Joseph Muscat yesterday for supporters to keep calm and avoid provocation.
