A couple and their two-year-year-old son had to leave their St Julian’s home six months ago because an elderly neighbour repeatedly threatened to blow them up. Daniela and Jason Cuschieri are especially upset because while the 74-year-old, who suffers from a personality disorder, is willing to move into a home for the elderly, thus solving the problem none of the State-run residential homes can cater for his needs. “We are aware that he needs help but we want to move back home safely. We have knocked at many doors but have found no help. The gas is there. No one is giving us a guarantee he will not do what he said. The media is our last hope. We have had to rent while paying our house loan and this is a great financial burden on us,” said Ms Cuschieri. Ms Cuschieri said the threats started being made after the man complained of noise from their flat and a water leakage which they denied responsibility for. The police inspected the elderly man’s house and did not find an alarming number of gas cylinders, but legal proceedings related to the threats have been instituted.
