A member of the Armed Forces of Malta's Air Wing has been jailed for two years over a case of domestic violence.
Carmelo Joseph Psaila, 36, of Zabbar also had his driving licence suspended for a year effective from when he gets out of prison.
Mr Psaila was found guilty of seriously injuring his wife in September 2004, March 2006 and in the past two years.
His wife told the court that the couple’s problems began in 1996 when she had to leave the house with the children because of his abusive behaviour.
In September 2004, she went for a walk when her husband stopped, came out of a van and called her a prostitute. He took her purse, threw it in the van and kicked and punched her, he dragged her from her hair and continued to kick her even after she lost consciousness.
In March 2006, she had to protect herself behind a telephone box when she saw her husband driving wrong way towards her.
He used to threaten her that he would break her neck.
The accused denied threatening his wife and said that all incidents between them were related to access to their children.
He also said that he did not cause his wife’s injuries.
