Accused denies threatening to 'burn' ex-girlfriend

A man who stands accused of breaching bail today denied assaulting his former girlfriend and threatening to burn her alive. Lydon Cutajar, 22, from Cospicua, gave evidence in court days after testimony by his former partner Graziella Grima. She claimed last week that she was assaulted by Cutajar at Gianpula and he had also threatened to burn her alive and set fire to her car and her house after he got out of prison. In his testimony Cutajar admitted breaching bail on August 27, when, he said, he succumbed to peer pressure and went to Gianpula nightclub. But he said it had been in his interest to avoid Grima because she had threatened to disrupt his bail and ensure that he stayed in prison for as long as she wanted.  Cutajar said that while he was at Gianpula a bunch of young women had flirted with him and then he was assaulted by a number of men. Grima was with the women who surrounded him. He said he had not intentionally hit her and he did not know that he had, but he was defending himself while being assaulted and he did not know who he hit.
