The Society of the Sacred Heart has rejected responsibility for a squatter who has taken over part of the car park of Zammit Clapp Hospital, turning it into a farm. In a judicial protest filed against Mepa and the Commissioner of Land, the society said this property was taken over by the government through expropriation in March 1989 and it had no jurisdiction over it. Therefore, an enforcement notice issued by Mepa against the society should be withdrawn. The society held Mepa and the Commissioner of Land responsible for damages. Lawyer Ruth Scott signed the protest. Times of Malta reported last month how the squatter has been illegally occupying part of Zammit Clapp Hospital’s car park for almost a decade and using it as a paddock for his animals. The squatter erected a fence in the car park and built illegal stables to house his horses and other animals, causing great inconvenience to residents and visitors to the hospital.
