Scrappage scheme taken up

The scrappage scheme announced in the 2014 budget has been taken up completely, Transport Malta said this morning. It said395 vehicles benefitted from the €300,000 grant put aside for the purpose by the government. Vehicle owners who applied for the scheme were entitled to a payment of between €500 and €900 upon the purchase of a new motor vehicle M1 that qualified for the grant scheme if at the same time deregistered a vehicle in the same category. The successful initiative was planned to encourage people to dispose of their old vehicles and to invest in new cars with lower emissions.
