An argument over a parking space landed an elderly man in hospital and another in court.
Paul Spiteri, 39 of Swieqi, was accused today of having injured Luigi Dalli, who suffered a fractured left hip and needed surgery after the incident in Spinola Bay on July 12.
Mr Dalli told the court that he had driven to Spinola Bay to buy fish. Initially he could not find a parking spot, and therefore waited near St Julian's police station.
After 10 or 15 minutes a car came out near Toni's Bar and he drove around to take the space. A man came and shouted at him not to park there. He said his friend needed the parking space.
Mr Dalli replied that he was not moving. He told the man that unless he got out of the way, he would call the police.
At that point another car came out out of a parking space and the man left. Mr Dalli then parked and left his van.
He said he was then approached by the accused who hit him. He turned and almost fell, but held on to his van. But the accused came around the van and pushed him to the ground.
He didn't speak to him and never saw him again, but he could declare that and it was not the person who told him not to park.
