17-year-olds were advised today to register as eligible voters should a general election be held as soon as they turn 18.
The Chief Electoral Commission said that following recent amendments to the electoral law, all those who turn 18 before polling day and are registered in the Electoral Register, are entitled to vote. Such persons must therefore ensure that their name appears in the Revised Electoral Register to be published within five days after the publication of the Writ of an election.
"Those persons who have attained or will attain 18 years of age in the coming months and wish to be registered as voters but have not yet applied for registration, may do so by calling at the Electoral Office, Evans Building, St Elmo Place, Valletta, or, for residents of Gozo, at 28A, St Francis Square, Victoria, Gozo, during the following office hours: Monday to Friday, between 7.30am and 2.00pm; Wednesdays, also from 3.00pm and 6.00pm; and on Saturdays, from 7.30am to 10.30am."
Persons who have already applied for the purpose of an I.D. card, do not need to apply.
