Two accused of selling ammunition, explosives, to Libyan companies

Two men, Michael Azzopardi 53 of Rabat and Feraj issa Ali Yaacob, 31 of Tripoli, were accused in court today of illegally selling ammunition to Libyan organisations when they knew or could suspect that it would be used against civilians. The two were arrested after the police on Saturday found some 40,000 bullets  in the Libyan man's car when it was stopped in Attard. The two pleaded not guilty to having on September 21 and the previous months financed an organisation with the intent to commit a crime; conspiring with people abroad to commit a crime, storing ammunition or explosive material without licence, selling ammunition and explosives and trading with Libyan companies when they knew that these materials could have been used against civilians. Mr Azzopardi on his own was also accused or having failed to respect the conditions of his firearms licence including failure to keep a proper inventory of weapons in his possession and having transferred  ammunition to a person who was not licensed to receive it.
