Local warden is seen ‘abusing’ box system

A disciplinary board will investigate a set of photographs that feature a warden’s car parked illegally in front of a garage as the warden sits inside a Sliema coffee shop smoking a cigarette. The images, taken yesterday and sent to Times of Malta, show a female warden sitting at a table inside the coffee shop on the Strand accompanied by a colleague. She is seen holding a lit cigarette in her right hand. They also show an official car used by the wardens, complete with orange beacon lights and a checked stripe running down the side, parked halfway in a yellow box in a front of a garage. The garage, close to the coffee shop, has “no parking” and “tow zone” printed stickers on the door. When contacted, Kenneth De Martino, the managing director of Guard and Warden Service House, said the photographs would be investigated by an independent disciplinary board. He added that the board’s chairman “will be immediately informed”. “We can’t allow people who enforce the law to abuse it, so we take these things very seriously.
