An argument over cats between a man and his partner ended up with the man allegedly causing €1,300 worth of damage to the partner’s car.
Teodisio Baldacchino was granted bail against a personal guarantee of €10,000 and a deposit of €700 after he pleaded not guilty to using his car to damage Ritienne Borg’s Fiat Uno.
Dr Edward Gatt said he found it ridiculous how Ms Borg was claiming €1,300 damages to a Fiat Uno, which at best would cost €500.
He said he could not understand how Police Inspector Roderick Agius had arraigned his client under arrest and then objected to his client being granted bail over an argument on the number of cats Ms Borg had at Mr Baldacchino’s flat.
Dr Gatt said that his client had wanted to end the relationship and take his flat back when this argument broke out.
If this was such a heinous crime, he said, an aeroplane hangar would be needed to keep all the people locked up.
Magistrate Neville Camilleri also issued a protection order for the alleged victim and said he was not to speak to her in any way.
