The man driving the van in prison in which heroin and methadone were found yesterday afternoon has been jailed for 18 months and fined €1,000 after he pleaded guilty to the crime this afternoon.
The van was being driven by business man David Scicluna, 29, of Sta Lucija, who used to supply prison with cleaning supplies and disposable items. The drugs were found under the dashboard.
Mr Scicluna also pleaded guilty to conspiring to traffic heroin and to having heroin and methadone in his possession in amounts that denoted they were not for his exclusive use.
Mr Scicluna cooperated with the police.
His lawyer, Arthur Azzopardi said the crime was a serious one and his client knew it.
Inspectors Herman Mula and Spiridione Zammit prosecuted.
