The Chief of Staff at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Silvio Scerri, insists he never knew convicted criminal Charles Attard, Iż-Żambi and did not use him as a go-between to arrange a meeting with Darryl Luke Borg, the man who was wrongly accused of a hold-up. In the wake of a sworn declaration by Mr Borg’s mother that Iz-Zambi contacted them and asked them to meet someone at the ministry. Mr Scerri told Times of Malta yesterday the affidavit proved him right. “Nowhere in her affidavit did Ms [Jane] Borg say that her son or the family were contacted by me or anybody from the ministry. On the contrary, she said it was Mr Attard who enticed her son to go to the ministry,” Mr Scerri said. Mr Scerri is insisting he did nothing wrong in agreeing to meet Ms Borg, her son, Darryl Luke, and Mr Attard when they turned up at the ministry. However, Mr Scerri was reluctant to divulge what was said during the meeting when asked about Ms Borg’s declaration that he asked her whether Police Inspector Elton Taliana had contacted the family.  ksansone@timesofmalta.com Full story in The Times of Malta and the e-paper on timesofmalta.com
