The operators of the Embassy Cinema in Valletta have applied for a permit to change parts of the present complex, including some of the cinema halls, into a boutique hotel, but the application is recommended for refusal, The Sunday Times of Malta has learnt.
According to the management, the idea is to add a 40-room hotel to the retail, food outlets and cinemas that the complex already offers.
The company requested a full development permit for the change of use of part of level two into hotel facilities and a breakfast room, and to change the use of levels five and six, currently housing cinema halls, into hotel rooms.
It also plans to build two floors for more rooms and a rooftop pool with related amenities, including a bar.
