A meteor streaks in the sky over Ghajn Tuffieha during the Perseid meteor shower. According to NASA, the annual Perseid meteor shower reaches its peak on August 12 and 13 in Europe. The fireballs from the meteorites are fast and plentiful, the agency adds, with as many as 100 visible in a single hour. The Perseid meteor showers are locally known as Dmugh ta’ San Lawrenz (St Lawrence’s tears). The meteors, or  "shooting stars", are a result of the material falling from the tail of Comet Swift-Tuttle. Picture by Jean-Paul Formosa. mynews@timesofmalta.com
