San Gwann residents and the non-governmental organisation Flimkien Ghal Ambjent Ahjar are objecting to the development of a mega block of apartments in the narrow Zbibu Lane in San Gwann.
The development was originally flagged as possibly creating increased traffic congesting by Transport Malta in July 2012 but was later accepted in the beginning of this year.
It was accepted against a €25,000 contribution by the developer, San Gwann Ltd, towards a traffic solution system.
Residents are claiming the site will detract from their quality of life by reducing air quality, sunlight and increasing traffic congesting.
The six storey block includes 50 apartments, 150 underground parking spaces and 77 garages.
FAA secretary Antonio Anastasi said the planning authority’s case officer’s report did not include the human element and the officer did not make an onsite inspection.
The present open space is potentially rich in history having cart ruts, a war shelter and a 300-year-old farmhouse.
Also on site is a well whose source of water is not yet known but which may affect the water table.
