Hamilton travels to UK

Norman Hamilton, the popular TV host and founder of one of Malta’s leading local travel agencies, will soon be off to London as the country’s new High Commissioner there, Times of Malta can confirm. Though the Government has refrained from confirming his appointment, senior foreign ministry officials yesterday said the minister, George Vella, had appointed Mr Hamilton as the island’s envoy to the UK and Ireland. He will replace renowned businessman Joe Zammit Tabona, who has occupied Malta House in Piccadilly for the past five years and was instrumental in getting financial service providers to come to Malta. Contacted yesterday, Mr Hamilton said that he was looking forward to “another new challenge” in his career. “I am very honoured to be given this role and I look forward to continue building on the sterling work which has already been done to attract more businesses to Malta,” he said. Asked whether he was surprised by his appointment, Mr Hamilton said that although the rumours had been going on for a while, he was not sure that he was going to be selected. “I was on a list of about 25 people for the job and I am very honoured to have been chosen,” he said.
