Using your credit card to purchase an air ticket for somebody else may not be such a good idea, as a number of Turkish Airline passengers can vouch.
Liliya Vrazhalska and her 11-year-old daughter ended up missing a flight last week because she failed to produce the card used by her older daughter to book the online transaction.
It turns out this particular airline obliges passengers to do this as a safeguard against fraud.
According to Ms Vrazhalska, six other passengers met the same problems.
The incident happened last Saturday when the Bulgarian woman was returning home but could not check in.
She unsuccessfully asked airline staff to phone her daughter to get the assurances they needed.
Eventually, Turkish Airlines offered to book a place on the next available flight, the following Tuesday, but she had to pay for lodging for her unplanned, additional three-night stay.
Turkish Airline manager Muhammed Soner Aydin said the company’s regulations laid down that passengers must produce the credit card either when checking in or beforehand, in any of their offices.
