The 24-hour power cut that cost four Mosta business owners €25,000 in spoilt stock was the result of three simultaneous malfunctions, according to Enemalta Corporation.
A spokesman told Times of Malta that faults were located in two underground sections of a high tension cable between Magħtab and Burmarrad, another between Mcast and Tarġa Gap and one between Burmarrad and Kennedy Grove.
Once the faults were identified, engineers rerouted power feeds to resume regular service.
Business owners in the Tarġa Gap area were angered by the lengthy delay in repairs that caused significant damage to goods, particularly frozen meats and medication.
The spokesman said the delay in repairs was due to the unique nature of the fault where one substation, which happened to be between two other affected substations, had to wait for one of the two others to be repaired before normal service could be restored.
“One needs to understand that once a fault is identified there is an inevitable lengthy process that needs to be followed,” the spokesman explained.
