A Mepa employee has been suspended for 10 years pending court proceedings, and although these were concluded recently, an appeal has been filed, parliament was told this evening.
In terms of the collective agreement, the employee remained on full pay between 2003 and 2009 and is now on half pay.
The information was given by Dr Michael Farrugia, the parliamentary secretary responsible for Mepa. Home Affairs Minister Emanuel Mallia pointed out how the case was decided by the courts recently but an appeal has been filed.
Dr Farrugia said another Mepa employee has been suspended for two-and-a-half months.
The case had also been raised in parliament in December 2011 when then Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said the employee, a principal technical officer was suspended on full pay by Mepa in October 2003 and had, up to that date, received €113,762.08 (net) from the Authority.
The employee was suspended after having been accused of committing criminal acts.
