A book by a Maltese doctor who has published a trilogy over the past year has been nominated for the People’s Book Prize UK, an annual literary award voted for by the public.
Isabella Camilleri, 44, moved to the UK when she graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Malta in 1993.
“I left after graduating with the intention of returning, but unfortunately I never did. I might do so in future because I’m often homesick.
“You’d be surprised how much I miss Twistees, Kinnie, ħobż biż-żejt and the glorious Mediterranean sun.
“These are often taken for granted, but when living abroad they are the little things that make you want to crawl back home,” Dr Camilleri, based in East Anglia, told The Sunday Times of Malta.
With medicine and writing as her passions, she has published three books in The Blake Trilogy – The Blake Curse, The Blake Soul and The Black Mistake – over the past year.
Published in March 2012, The Black Curse is a psychological thriller and romance set in the city of Cambridge. It has now been nominated for the People’s Book Prize which is an annual UK literary award.
