Updated: 'Not one euro on bus consultancy fees', Mizzi says

A pedestrian crossing over the Mrieħel bypass will include solar-powered lifts, according to Infrastructure Minister Joe Mizzi. He made the announcement during a public consultation meeting at Auberge de Castille, when he also displayed a design of the proposed bridge. Mr Mizzi also said the bus service will come in for some more changes but he urged commuters to be patient. He said talks with public transport operator Arriva will start next week and promised they will continue daily until solutions to the problems of tardiness and ill-serviced routes are found. Mr Mizzi, who was speaking at a public consultation meeting, said his ministry had not spent "one euro" on consultancies to reform the bus system. "Unlike the previous administration that spent €845,000 on consultancy fees, the people were our consultants through their suggestions and criticism," he said. People speaking from the floor focused their criticism on the public transport system and raised various other issues such as the residents parking scheme in Sliema, traffic congestion and road resurfacing.
