A number of transfers at St Vincent de Paul Home have been withdrawn, in what was a victory for common sense, the UHM said today. It said the transfers were discussed with the Social Solidarity Ministry. While some transfers were withdrawn, a number of other workers were offered alternative work which would benefit the sector as well as the workers themselves, the union said. It did not give numbers. It said disagreement remained over a particular section and about a person transferred from a home for the elderly. Another meeting will be held in three weeks' time. The two sides will also discuss  how transfers should be carried out, on the basis of transparency and meritocracy. GOVERNMENT STATEMENT The government in a reaction said the UHM statement showed how this was an administration which listened.  It said it remained committed to carrying out the necessary reforms to improve services for the elderly, while keeping the workers motivated.
