Marsa traffic junction - Major changes under consideration

The government is considering a substantial change to the traffic junction near the Addolorata Cemetery in Marsa in order to solve the traffic congestion problems there, Transport Minister Joe Mizzi said this morning. Speaking on One TV, he said that among the solutions being considered was an underpass. In his interview Mr Mizzi complained about transport organisational shortcomings. He said traffic management was planned by desk-bound people who rarely ever went on site. In many cases, he said, officials created problems rather than solved them. A case in point was a planned diversion of traffic in Aldo Moror street, where he had to go on site to propose solutions, he said. He also complained of a situation where procurement of spare parts for traffic lights was disorganised and there had been a situation where when a bulb went out, a replacement was cannibalised from another set. The situation is being remedied.
