Government holds off on security services contract because of precarious work

The government has held off from awarding a contract to a security services firm after finding that workers would have been employed in precarious jobs, Social Dialogue and Employment Relations Minister Helena Dalli told Parliament this evening. She said an analysis by the Department of Employment and Industrial Relations found that the bid offer was so low that the workers would have been underpaid and hence in precarious work. Dr Dalli said a government action plan on precarious work would be discussed with the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development on June 24.  Other meetings were planned with individual social parters.
