The Labour Party has accused Nationalist leader Simon Busuttil of using his European Parliament contacts to hinder the Government from continuing with its process to reduce electricity tariffs while improving air quality.
The PL said that a question posed by a member of the European People's Party in the EP showed the PN refused to understand that a heavy fuel oil power station and the confused BWSC contract were the worst possible choice for the country.
It said that Dr Busuttil could still not understand how, through a more transparent process in line with established time frames, the Government would be giving families a power station with environmental standards a modern European country deserved. This should also lead to lower water and electricity rates.
The work of Dr Busuttil and former ministers against the national interest reflected the Opposition’s negativity, the PL said.
