Maritime lawyer Ann Fenech has submitted her nomination for the post of president of the Nationalist Party executive.
Dr Fenech, who was only elected for the first time to the party’s executive last Saturday, has never been involved in any of the party structures officially before and had been pushed to run for the post of leader to replace Lawrence Gonzi.
She confirmed when contacted yesterday that she had submitted her nomination but would not be drawn into saying what she was expected to change in the party.
“It would be rather presumptuous of me to say what I’m going to change or what I’d like to change. The party has to do that and it has to be a team effort. It first has to come to terms with what happened and map out a way forward,” she said.
Dr Fenech, managing partner of Fenech and Fenech Advocates and heads its marine litigation department, said it was a phase of her life in which she wanted to get involved in politics.
“It’s all a learning curve. I am sure there is a lot of good that must be retained. However, there are also issues which caused grief to people and I think the party needs to address this.”
