A dishwasher was accused in court today with having groped a 19-year-old waitress in an incident two days ago at the La Valette Resort, where they work in Paceville.
Ibrahim Ali, 30, from the Ivory Coast, who has lived in Malta for the past eight years, was accused of violent indecent assault. He pleaded not guilty.
Police Inspector Luke Bonello said that the victim, a Maltese woman, had told the police that he had tried to pull off her blouse and had groped her breasts. He was arrested shortly after.
The victim said that this was not the first time that she had been groped and asked for sex by the accused.
The accused denied that he had done anything wrong and said he was only joking like he and done before with other colleagues.
Lawyer Andrew Sciberras requested bail arguing that the accused was not going to abscond since he had lived in Malta for many years and worked here.
Inspector Bonello said that the only problem was that the accused and the victim work in the same place.
Magistrate Anthony Vella granted bail against a personal guarantee of €2,000. He also issued a protection order for the victim.
