Former Speaker Michael Frendo has been appointed chairman of Banif Bank.
He succeeds former Ombudsman Joseph Sammut who resigned from this post today.
The bank praised Mr Sammut for presiding over the board since his appointment in March 2007, and thanked him for his commendable contribution throughout the past six years.
"As Chairman, Mr Sammut played a major role in the realisation of the Banif project in Malta, and in positioning the bank as a fully-fledged financial institution considered today as a leading player in Malta," the bank said.
"Dr Frendo’s experience and competence will further strengthen the Organisation’s position in the local market. His contribution will be crucial in the bank’s efforts to accomplish its growth plans and to continue investing in efforts that support businesses and individuals in Malta."
