Police rapped as teenager is arraigned for drinking alcohol at concert

Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona has berated the police for not finding practical ways around minor offences as a 17-year-old girl was charged with consuming alcohol at last year's Isle of MTV concert. The girl who was 16 at the time pleaded not guilty to the charge and was subsequently acquitted on a technicality. Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona read out the law which stated that when a minor was caught with alcohol, a warning would be issued but a formal charge would be issued if the person was caught again. Police Inspector Godwin Scerri noted that she had in fact been caught before and given a warning but the magistrate still acquitted her because the charge only recorded one incident. Speaking to PC Aaron Caruana, the policeman who caught the girl, the magistrate asked him if anyone taught the officers on how to be practical. He asked in a sarcastic way how many people were at the Isle of MTV, saying ""three or four?". The officer said that she was the one he saw.
