Two Green MEPs currently in Malta on a fact finding mission concerning Dalligate this afternoon published a confidential report by the OLAF supervisory committee which they described as "a bomb".
MEP Jose Bove said that he and colleague Bart Staes had investigated the issue for six months.
Addressing a press conference in Valletta this afternoon, Mr Staes said that the European Commission overlooked the proper oversight procedures in this case despite the fact that it was dealing with a European Commissioner and a representative of a member state.
“We met and carried out an investigation. We did not understand what had happened... I had been fighting Mr Dalli's decisions. When he was made to resign on October 16 we asked ourselves, this Commissioner is given 30 minutes to resign. Is this serious?”
He said that they held press conferences complaining about the lack of transparency and, in March, he interviewed Johan Gabriellson who admitted he had lied.
“We're going to give the tape to the Commissioner of Police… This tape says that only lies came out of Swedish Match. From then on, we found that things were not going well and Mr Kessler was doing very strange things,” Mr Staes...
