PN leadership runner-up Mario de Marco has stood by his decision not to run for the post of deputy leader, but insisted he was prepared to play any role the party felt was appropriate for him to occupy.
“I am at the service of the party and my interest is for the party to unite as soon as possible. I am ready to serve the party,” Dr de Marco told Times of Malta.
On Sunday, when questioned on whether he hoped Dr de Marco would re-consider his declaration, Simon Busuttil, who topped the leadership election, said: “I’m not taking any sides but someone like Mario would be eminently qualified for the job.”
Dr de Marco said yesterday: “At this stage, I do not intend contesting but I am prepared to play any role the party feels is appropriate for me.”
