Updated - Adds comment by Jason Micallef - The Nationalist Party said this evening that Jason Micallef's appointment as chairman of the V18 Foundation was the worst advertisement for the capital city. The V18 foundation is tasked with preparing Valletta to be European Cultural Capital in 2018. The appointment was announced this morning by Parliamentary Secretary Jose' Herrera. The PN said Mr Micallef, former general secretary of the Labour Party, was not fit for purpose. It said the prime minister had given in to the pressure put by Mr Micallef, and in the process he had humiliated and ridiculed the country. Dr Muscat was using his powers as prime minister to address personal issues and those of persons around him. The PN noted that Mr Micallef would replace architect David Felice, a person well suited for the post. It was not only a mistake to have removed Mr Felice, but the mistake was compounded with Mr Micallef's appointment. His appointment, and that of Dr Herrera as parliamentary secretary responsible for culture, did not augur well for the sector, the party concluded.
