A woman has won a case she filed against the Public Registry which listed her as dead when it was her own daughter who, in her father's death certificate, erroneously wrote that her mother had died too.
A judge ordered the correction of Assunta Paris's details after she had been erroneously listed as dead and her husband listed as a widower.
She filed the case against the Director of the Public Registry because when her husband, Emanuel, died in July 2011, he was listed as "widower of Assunta Paris" when she was still alive.
The court heard the department reply that it was Ms Paris's daughter, Maria, who wrote in her father's death certificate that her mother was dead too and had even signed that the contents of the form were correct.
Mr Justice Joseph Azzopardi said this case revolved around a mistake which said she was dead when she was still alive and therefore accepted the woman's request for a correction. He ruled that since the mistake was not done by the Public Registry, the department should not pay for the expenses of the court case.
