Man dies in hotel plant room explosion

A man died after an explosion in the plant room of the Bugibba Holiday Complex last night. A police spokesman said the explosion took place at about 11.45 p.m. The victim was Charles Axisa, 59 of Valletta, who is very well known among Carnival enthusiasts and has been in charge of the construction of King Carnival for the past 17 years. Another two workers were slightly injured. An inquiry is being conducted by Magistrate Ian Farrugia. Parliamentary Secretary for Culture Jose' Herrera and the Malta Council for the Arts expressed condolences to the Axisa family and praised Mr Axisa for his contribution to the Malta carnival.
