Former President Eddie Fenech Adami said this morning that he had requested a small change to the President's address which he read out at the opening of Parliament in 2008.
Questioned on TVAM whether the President may change parts of the address, prepared by the government, Dr Fenech Adami said that in his case, he had asked the prime minister to amend a small part. It was not a substantive part, he said, but he had felt it could be presented better.
With regard to the speech he had himself prepared as prime minister for delivery by Acting President Paul Xuereb at the opening of Parliament in 1987, Dr Fenech Adami said he did not remember exactly what the speech said, but times were different, and even he would probably review that speech now.
Dr Fenech Adami was also questioned on his decision to address the last PN mass meeting in the electoral campaign.
He replied that apart fro being a former President, he was also a former party leader. As President he had kept above politics. He had addressed the mass meeting as a former party leader, and he was careful about what he said, limiting himself to his support for Dr Gonzi.
