Last updated 5.22 pm - An explosion in a Għargħur garage on Wednesday afternoon is believed to have been caused by a bomb, police sources said.  One man, 42, was critically injured in the blast, which was heard over a wide area shortly after 3pm. The sources said the man was previously known to the police. Rescuers from the Civil Protection Department and medical personnel were deployed to the scene and helped pull the injured man from the debris after the garage roof was demolished and the door was blown off.   The bomb went off as soon as the garage door was opened, according to unconfirmed reports.  The injured man's relatives rushed to the site but were told he was already on his way to hospital. Another man who was near the scene of the explosion was unhurt.  Two cars which were parked nearby were damaged but their owners were prevented from getting near them as the area was evacuated.  Army explosives experts were also called to the scene. Some 45 minutes after the blast the police further extended the cordon around the area, asking reporters to move further back. Magistrate Audrey Demicoli is holding an inquiry.
