Peter Cassar, 66 of Zejtun, was remanded in custody today after having been accused of having explosive material, small arms, ammunition and booby trap equipment in his garage.
The arraignment was made after a search in his garage in Zejtun on Saturday afternoon.
Mr Cassar faces a total of 20 charges including the unlawful possession of explosives, two unlicensed pistols, a machine-gun and an air gun as well as a large bomb - possibly an World War II aerial bomb - which is still being examined.
Inspector Carlos Cordina said that Mr Cassar had told the police that he feared that somebody would force himself into his property and harm him, and he had therefore been preparing his defence.
He said that the accused was also found in possession of explosives two years ago.
