Watch: Qormi roadworks cut traffic delays by one-third, Transport Minister says

Roadworks by Qormi’s Pavi supermarket and nearby areas had reduced traffic delays there by a third, Transport Minister Ian Borg said on Wednesday. Addressing a press conference, Dr Borg gave an overview of the works, which included the reworking of two roundabouts on either end of Triq Manwel Dimech in Qormi, widening of roads approaching and leaving the area, and the addition of new lanes to facilitate traffic flow. Works had also been done in the areas nearby, including the rebuilding of the roundabout near the St Vincent de Paul nursing home in Marsa. Transport Malta figures show that around 2,300 cars and 316 heavy vehicles use the junction near the Qormi supermarket every hour, putting it in the authority’s ‘busy’ category. Works at Luqa junctionDr Borg also announced that similar works had just got underway at another roundabout junction in Luqa, next to Express Trailers. The works, which will see the whole roundabout on Triq Hal Luqa redesigned, were also expected to further ease congestion in the area, by facilitating greater flow of vehicles.
